Junges Literaturhaus

Books for everyone! Since 2018, the Junges Literaturhaus at Li-Be has been running its own free programme for children and young people, designed to spark a love of books and bring young people together with exciting artists. There’s something for every age group: nursery and pre-school children are invited to the ‘Fasanenküken’ series of storytime cinema screenings, where they can marvel at their first picture books on the big screen; primary school children get to meet writers and illustrators in action and are regularly encouraged to join in, writing their own texts, drawing and, of course, asking lots of questions. With our ‘Gedankenflieger’ – a project centred on philosophy for primary school children – we invite Berlin school classes to take flight; this year, the focus is on the wonderful theme of hope. Young people, meanwhile, meet German and international writers and illustrators, write and perform texts, or even organise their own events – by young people, for young people!

Another key focus of the Junges Literaturhaus is comics: Colourful, extremely versatile and easily accessible thanks to their varied mix of text and images, they have long captivated children and young people, and comic events are simply great fun for all ages – making it all the more wonderful that there are so many fantastic comic artists in Berlin, whom you can also discover from autumn onwards in our new little interactive trail around the Literaturhaus!

There are also regular activities for families: readings with popular children’s book authors, colourful themed afternoons or literary classics in the garden invite you to join us at the weekend in discovering the beautiful Literaturhaus and some of our fantastic partner organisations around the city. By the way: it’s always worth taking a look at our regular programme too – as school classes and courses are also very welcome to join us in the evenings or on our literary guided tours; please do get in touch!
