Nikesh Shukla and Gesa Stedman

  • Reading & Talk

Opening

»Across the page« unites Anglophone authors from Berlin and Britain for readings, workshops, and conversations at Literaturhaus Berlin. Nikesh Shukla (GB), Sheila Armstrong (Berlin; Ireland), and Leon Craig (Berlin) will read from their recent works, and they will be joined for workshops by translators Lucy Jones, Katy Derbyshire, and Sylee Gore (Berlin). Everyone can try their hand at creative writing and translation, and end this wonderful literary festival by joining DJ Natalie Stardust at the party.

Nikesh Shukla is the editor of “The Good Immigrant”, an anthology which
had an impact not only on the British literary market. The American
edition equally reverberates across the Atlantic. Things that don’t
exist get invented by Nikesh Shukla: he co-founded “The Jhalak Prize for
writers of colour” in 2016, and set up the “Good Literary Agency” which
operated till 2025, thus opening the literary field to countless
authors. Nikesh Shukla writers for children and adults, is equally at
home with fiction and non-fiction, writes for film and television, and
teaches creative writing, and acts as a mentor for budding authors. On 5
November 2026, he will give an insight into his most recent work and
discuss with Gesa Stedman (HU Berlin) how the Anglophone book world has
developed since Brexit, and in populist times.

An event in cooperation with the Centre for British Studies and the British Council
