International influence from Berlin: The Hauptstadtkulturfonds

The Hauptstadtkulturfonds was conceived in 1995 by the Rat für die Künste Berlin and championed by politicians. Established in 1999, we can now look back on a success story spanning almost thirty years! The Hauptstadtkulturfonds has just been renegotiated as part of the talks on the Hauptstadtfinanzierungsvertrag– a significant increase in funding would have been urgently needed to continue producing excellent and innovative culture in Berlin over the next ten years that can shine on the international stage, but the politicians decided otherwise. Together with our guests, we will discuss the unique role of the Hauptstadtkulturfonds in cultural funding and highlight its significance through artistic perspectives.
