Hanns Zischler »Yumikos Paravent«
The news of her mother Johanna’s sudden death in faraway Japan reaches Hanaka weeks too late. She travels to Kobe to wind up Johanna’s fashion studio. In an unfinished linen jacket, she finds a whole bundle of airmail letters – all from a single sender, the Berlin painter Kusmín. It appears that, after Johanna moved away from Berlin, the two maintained an intimate, heartfelt correspondence for over twenty years. Taken by surprise, Hanaka sets out on a quest for clues that also leads her into her own past.
Hanns Zischler tells the fascinating love story of a fashion designer leading two lives between Berlin and Japan in a clever and poetic way, and discusses it with the art historian and journalist Lisa Zeitz.
