Die Jugend ist auch nicht in Würde jung

Women are getting older, as ever. And foul metaphors are still in circulation, along with the questionable use of ‘still’ in what is supposed to be a compliment: ‘She still looks good for her age!’ The series ‘Eine Frau wird älter’ tackles these remnants of a female ideal based primarily on beauty – or, to put it bluntly: ‘fuckability’ – and then turns its attention, with wit and life experience, to other questions: Will things stay this way? What is to be accepted and what is to be ignored? Couldn’t we just dive straight through that overrated metaphor ‘menopause’? Isn’t it brilliant, actually, to have stuck it out for so long?
